G.I. struggles

A shout out to the super masters runners in the World Championships in Sacramento, Ed Whitlock continues to amaze, a Runners World chat with Matt Gabrielson, and Berlin with Geb and Paula.

Tuesday, July 5 - 9 miles (7 miles - 56:04, 2 miles at 8:30 pace on the track). Warm evening to run, but was nice and shady on the trails. Out and back on the G.C. loop which was littered with randoms here and there, always nice to see. Started with Pat, but Crystal and I picked it up after he turned back. At the turn around, my stomach started acting up and considered running to the gas station bathroom but figured I could work through it. Note to self - always go with your first instinct. Started having some major G.I. issues with a little less than 2 miles to go, which didn't help with the picked up pace. Dropped the hammer the last half mile, which was one of the most miserable experiences in a while for me since my stomach was literally about to explode. Not fun keeping up a low 5 minute pace in absolute misery and half a stride (for fear that any movement would cause a really bad accident). Good news is the run felt really easy. Nice negative split on the way back (splits were: 29:02, 27:02). Ran up to the track to work with Megan on her 800 meter repeats. Paced her through a few at 5K pace, she hit good splits (4:09-4:15) so good workouts for everybody!

Wednesday, July 6 - 6 miles (50:03). Crystal dragged me out this morning for run and drills. My purring cat, Franklin tried to drag me back to bed for cuddling. Crystal won, but barely. Legs felt a little sore/tired, so not as easy a run as Tuesday night. A little surprised to see quite a few people at the track (including a runner doing drills (I thought Crystal was going to elbow him for working on our turf)), but nice to have company. More G.I. issues on the way back, which totally sucked. Legs felt like jello coming back home - with stomach issues, I was once again in misery. Happy to get this in, despite all my whining this morning (sorry Crystal).

So headed to Detroit for work today. Quick trip, nothing much to miss, but hope to get in a small, easy run just to explore a new area since that is one of my favorite things to do! I am guessing that my ridiculous 4th of July weekend and awful eating/drinking has been the main reason behind my recent G.I. problems - as any runner can attest to, it absolutely SUCKS running with stomach issues. On a brighter note, with my recent casino earnings, I ordered my new Garmin Forerunner 610 yesterday! After extensive research, I determined this was the one, and am anxiously awaiting its arrival! More to come...
